Sex hormones – a quick guide
Our hormones govern nearly every part of our body and being.
We all (men and women) have the sex hormones oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone as they are essential to our bodies.
Oestrogen.
The female hormone. Instrumental to fertility as well as preventing bone loss and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.
Progesterone.
The second female hormone. Balances out oestrogen levels, essential to reproduction. Also helps the body use fat for energy, reduces bloating and anxiety levels.
Testosterone.
The male hormone. Linked to aggression and sexual drive. Also plays a general role in building muscle tone, increasing energy levels and maintaining a healthy libido.
